Biodiversity

Biodiversity

As the name suggests, biodiversity is about the diversity of life. Biodiversity does not only refer to the number of different animal and plant species, it also takes into account the genetic differences within species and the diversity of habitats. A high degree of biodiversity is important for the course of action of ecological processes in nature. Almost every one of these processes, e.g. Soil formation and its nutrient balance, the cleaning power of our bodies of water, the pollination of plants etc. involve countless different living beings. The number of these different living beings guarantees the stable running of the processes; less  organisms involved mean at the same time a worse process. It is therefore in our interest to protect biodiversity, since it is the basis for life on earth.

In addition, of course, the principle applies that every living being has a right to exist, and in particular the rare species should be saved from disappearing. To protect and promote the biodiversity in the Öewersauer Nature Park, the following measures i.a. are being carried out:

  • Contractual nature protection: the biodiversity programs. In addition to the designation of protected areas, care plans, action plans and the financial aid for extensive management of particularly interesting areas are especially worth mentioning here.
  • Late mowing: This campaign is about mowing different areas, which do not necessarily require a short lawn cut, until later in the growing season. This not only saves work and money, but also contributes significantly to biodiversity.
  • “…ouni Pestiziden”: This campaign is organized by a large number of actors from the environmental sector and wants to make the public and the community aware of the harmful effects of pesticides on nature and health and wants to propose alternative methods of care both for public and private surfaces in the settlement area.
